Finally an Update!

By • August 12, 2008

Sorry for the utter silence on the blog lately. For those of you who don’t follow along with the comments, it must have seemed quite quiet around here. I had a bunch of real life obligations that none of you particularly care to hear about (and that I’m bound by contract not to talk about), so I’ll just leave it at that and say that I have been quite busy lately. A fair amount of my free time has gone into de-stressing via games. That being said, progress is, as always, being made on the translation and hacking fronts.

First up, we have a dialogue shot. Hacking work on dialogue is obviously not an issue at this point and the translation is progressing. Second, another menu shot, which is currently my main focus. Implementing the selector is still a work in progress (since I have to cross reference past games with the Japanese names). I’ve ended up creating a huge spreadsheet that is documenting naming conventions all across the Tales series, but it is taking me longer than I expected. The good news is that the time I put into creating this database now will pay dividends on future projects. That’s currently low priority, however. Kingcom is doing a great job of making everything look fantastic. The cooking window had to be completely restructured in order to make that screenshot.

I previously mentioned that I would be making the announcement for my second project in early August. Obviously that didn’t happen, although the announcement IS still coming. I now expect that the project will be revealed in early September. I apologize for those of you who are waiting to hear what it is, but hang in there just a little longer.

Finally, I just want to say something in regard to a release schedule for Tales of Innocence:

Tales of Innocence will be released when it is complete and no sooner. The release date of the project will be well publicized when we are ready, but that is still months away.

We have started to see comments about how people are “starting to lose interest”. I’m somewhat stunned that there is already such impatience towards the project. It hasn’t even been a month since we announced the project. Anyone who has ever been involved in a translation project could tell you that these things do not happen overnight and there’s no way to rush it. We will continue to work at our own pace and aim to bring you the best translation that we can. We ask for your understanding and support until that time. Thanks. ^_^

  10. Thnaks fro this as impation as i am im still gonaa wait cuz its not easy to translate games lol besides people should be appreciative of this at least they are doing this for us

  11. Throughhim does the voice stll japanese just curious ^_^

  12. Anybody who is already losing interest obviously doesn’t want to play the game that bad. Even though im not a big fan of storyline, ill def pay attention to wats going on this time around. Keep up the good work, you have support even from people who didnt realize u were making a patch lol

  13. beautiful, luca is still a stupid name though

  14. @Aqil: Voice is still in Japanese. We have no intention of dubbing the game, that’s far beyond the scope of this project.

  15. People are ALREADY losing interest? *sigh* People are ridiculous sometimes. They should be appreciative towards the effort you guys are putting into releasing this game in English for everyone to enjoy!

Thanks again throughhim~ I can’t wait to play this game in English. 😀

  16. I don’t understand how people can be impatient. You guys have come a lot farther than most in a short time. Keep up the good work ^_^

  17. awesome!

  18. is a lot of progress people who loss interest are not real gamers or don´t know how to apreciate the hard work you guys keep the hard work we´ll wait

  19. This is awesome, I hope you guys continue the great work ^^ but c’mon, about the second project can’t you at least give a hint (like the plataform, if it is ps2, psp…) by now? since we will have to wait more to know what it is, its only fair!

  20. Okay. The hint is that the game is NOT for a Nintendo console. That’s all I’m giving you. :p

  21. well it’s good to know it’s not tempest (doesn’t need a translation … the story wasn’t even that good)
but damn you suko! you should have asked a more detailed hint … like is it for a portable console or home!

*crosses fingers, mumble mumble* Rebirth, Rebirth, Rebirth, Rebirth, Rebirth, psp edition, psp edition, psp edition, psp edition *mumbles chant*

  22. “well it’s good to know it’s not tempest”² =P

  23. I’m with Pioggia

Let’s all cross our fingers and pray that it’s rebirth for psp! *joins in chant*

  24. Wow just looking at new screens keeps me satisfied. Good job on the translation!

  25. i rather have rebirth on the ps2 lol

  26. Actually, I wish it’s Tales of Destiny 2 for the PSP. Awesome game and battle system, and the story is really touching. I’d like to be able to understand it perfectly, since the story guides I found are really vague.

Anyway, I’ll still appreciate your work even if it’s not that game. I also want to play Rebirth, just not that badly.

  27. *Starts chanting with Pioggia and sawyerman* Rebirth, Reborth, Rebirth,Rebirth, Rebirth, psp edition, psp edition, psp edition, psp edition *keeps on chanting*

  28. Wow! I have to say, after playing the 1st “scene” of destiny 2 for psp that I’m starting to think that destiny 2 would be the best game to be translated! Either way, I’m just prayinf for psp games to be translated!

  29. i dont care what you want but i hope its a ps2 game

  30. but Pioggia I was afraid he wouldn’t say if I was to detailed about it, we know now it isn’t Tales of tempest, and neither is any tales for GBA or the first nakiri. It can be ToR or ToDR or ToD2 (for PSP or ps2), a retranslation of Tales of Eternia (with skits!), or even the Tales of Fandom 1 or 2…anything is great for me, I just hope more its the director’s cut of destiny…

  31. Looking nice and polished even at this early stage. How much do I have to bribe you to make your next project ToD2PSP?

    Good work man.

  32. You would think Tales fans would have more patience than that. Many, *many* projects have taken years to complete. Heck, I’m also a Dragon Quest fan, and can anyone say DQ3SFC?

Thrilled to see yet another Tales game with progress already made–had no idea till a few minutes ago while clicking through some bookmarks. Ecstatic at the thought of even more coming after this! I will say, I’ve been hoping for a long time to see Tales of Destiny 2. I have hopes on backburner for the ToD and ToS PS2 remakes, but I’d rather use those as excuses to keep up my Japanese studies. Tales of Rebirth? Forgot about that one, but sounds good, too. :3

But those are just my own hopes, and are in no way *expectations* for any translation group. Any game from any series getting some english love is a good thing, and should be supported so that the scene can stay alive.

  33. Awesome, an update. Is the second project a Tales title or something different altogether? =)
If it’s Tales of Destiny Remake or Rebirth I’ll have your babies and find a modded PS2 to borrow to play it.

  34. I just started to track the game and it looks awesome.
Best of luck to you guys
