An Update!?

Can you believe it!? After an extended silence, a Tales of Innocence update has come at long last! New screens and some information about when we expect this project to be complete.

So, we’ve been silent for a few weeks now. It wasn’t intentional, just kind of how things worked out. Kingcom and I have been busy with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia lots of real life things. Progress on Tales of Innocence has admittedly been rather slow since the last posted update. Some sections of story, a few scattered skits, and more menu revisions have been the main focus during this time.

So, here are our screens for this week. The left screen gives a shot of the menu in battle, which I think is looking great. The right screen shows off the Strategy window, which I don’t believe we’ve shown up until now. One of the biggest things to notice in both images is the bottom screen. As was suggested, we have changed the names to match the rest of the text in the window. The layout of the lower window has also been altered slightly to try and fill the space more effectively. Below we have one more screen, but it’s nothing different. The reason for showing this screen is that we want your input. Do you prefer the vertical layout as shown above or do you prefer the horizontal layout shown below? Let us know if you have any suggestions for the layout of the lower screen!

Finally, I want to talk a little about this project and when it will be released. I know people are excited about this, but we aren’t willing to rush it. We initially wanted to shoot for a release by the end of the year, but that is looking highly unlikely. To provide the highest quality at release, we really want to take our time both with the translating, the hacking, and the testing. I release that many people are used to fast paced, incremental release of patches from places like GBAtemp, but that simply isn’t how we operate. Do not expect Tales of Innocence to be released until early 2009. We thank you for your understanding and hope that you will still look forward to the final product. We assure you, it will be worth the wait!

  1. Although, to be honest, I like the vertical version, too… :’D. I just don’t like Kaji’s version.

  2. well, as for me,i like the vertical version, it looks nicer and if possible with the kaji version as well, i like it to be as close to the real thing as possible, so that’s just me and thanks for the good news on the patch. =D

    hmm, on 2nd thought, thedicemaster version looks more clean, arghh, they are both real good, =(

    Just by looking at the screen, its not easy to tell if there is anything more that we can suggest, other than the name thing, which in the new edits, have been added, i can’t tell if there is anything more to change =(

  3. I think I’m retarded. I don’t see a difference in either styles. Maybe I should grab my glasses. I do know that regardless of what style you pick, I’m very excited! I’m glad you aren’t rushing yourself. Thus far, the game looks very professional! Thank you for your efforts!

  7. Another option is to leave the names where they are as in version Kaji, but left-align them as in version dicemaster, and position them so that Hermana isn’t too close to the HP/TP display and it uses up the whitespace nicely. Call this… version Kajimaster 😛

    Also my vote goes for thedicemaster version, but the Kajimaster version looks also good in my opinion.

  10. Either thedicemaster or Kajimaster look great to me. I’m willing to wait forever for this, as long as it’s well done. But there seems to be no chance of it being done shoddily, seeing as how good it looks.

  14. I definitely like “thedicemaster” mock-up for the lower screen. It’s very polished and organized. Very easy to read at a glance. I think that one would be ideal if it could be reproduced in game. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the release when it comes around. Between this and all the new games coming out lately, I am currious when I will have time to finish them all.

    It feels the least cluttered and easy to quickly look at.
    If not, the Kaji one becaused the “name” is redundant.

  22. Hi! I prefer dicemaster’s layout, it feels far more polished than the other three version, not to mention it’s more logical to have the names before the level\exp imho.

  27. The dicemaster version of course, it’s close to common sense to have names clearly layed out, and then the rest of stats.

  28. Honestly, I really like thedicemaster’s layout, it’s so beautiful, but if it’s not possible 🙂 then the vertical one works the best, the horizontal one is not so good, as the word “name” is directly above the experiece points, making it looks so busy…

    I think having the word “Name” listed is redundant and unnecessary. It also makes the screen look extremely cluttered.

    Please keep up the good work! I’m just thankful you guys are putting the effort into doing this! Thank you! No matter how long this takes, I’m sure it’ll be more than worth the wait!
