Innocent Update

By • February 1, 2009

The tentative release date is being pushed back to Summer 2009.I realize that’s kind of a big jump from Q1 2009, but I just want to play it safe. From the beginning, I was aiming for a late Q1 release. I know many people thought maybe it would be early this year, but I don’t want to rush things. I failed to consider the time commitment I had in the Tales of Destiny: Director’s Cut and how much time editing might take. I will say that I’m hoping it will be an early Summer release rather than a late one, but I can’t make any promises. I have a lot of things that I need to be able to devote time to and I can’t afford to neglect any of them. So to ensure that you’re all getting the highest quality release that we can provide, that date is being pushed back. The date was never fixed from the outset, but I did say that I was shooting for Q1, so I felt some obligation to say this.

In other news, this last week saw a ton of progress on Tales of Innocence. The NPC files have been completely translated as well as several of the events. The current event progress is 11 out of 31. That’s not an estimate, just a fact. It doesn’t really mean anything either. In addition, the NPC files have been passed off for editing, so those are out of my hands for now. Things are moving at a good pace. Once I finish translating the events, the work on the skits will begin. For those who are interested in following the event translation more closely, I’m making an effort to keep people updated on the day-to-day progress on the forum. So if that sounds like something that might interest you, check it out.

I guess that’s about all I have for now.

  1. “the work on the skits will begin.”

After reading that you guys might not do the skits on the forums, this line made my day. Skits are what made me fall in love with the series.

  2. Aww kinda sad to hear since I really wanted to play but if getting it during the summer means the best patch possible I’ll tough it out and wait. Thanks for your hard work.

  3. I’m glad you decided to postpone the releases of this game until Q3 2009. It’s not bad since the summer time most RPG releases are kind of a few. So this is a good choice and best of luck.

May the Sun be with you…

  4. Joseph: Nobody ever said that we might not do the skits. From the beginning it always was and has always been our intention to translate everything. I’m not sure when or why people started worrying about the skits…

  5. you said that you weren’t gonna do a bonus skit at the end, you were gonna do the skits though… or so i think

  6. People were asking me to add some sort of bonus skit to the game. When I said we weren’t planning to do that, but I’m not sure how it could be construed as saying that we weren’t going to do the existing skits.

  7. It’s cool, my DS broke anyway hahaha.

  8. Really? That’s great news to me! Keep up the good work guys!

  9. cool!! it’s good you pushed it to summer because many games such as pokemon platinum and more are coming out to the us in q1. i’ll be glad to wait for TOI as long as i get to play it.

  10. Well, well… I raise my hand and go together with the people that “as long as we are capable of play, take long as it may”. ^^

Buuuuuuut… I’ll still be a kind of moron and will ask: No plans at all for no one of the PSP “Tales of” games? T_T

It’s just that… You’re working with Tales of Phantasia os PSX, and there is a “enhanced port” of it on PSP… 😛

  11. @Rafa Mestre: Some of the PSP games (namely Destiny 2) use a new compression method to fit everything on the UMD (which a single-sided disc has a 1.8 GB limit, IIRC). I’d bet Rebirth also uses this. So it might take a while before those games can be “hacked”.

  12. dude love the macro updates, I knew it was unrealistic, for you guys to finish in Q1 even though you guys work real fast, all I have to say is, release the game when you yourselves are satisfy with the work, and know it’s finish, all I can do is support you guys, so keep up the great work, Zettai zero rules.

  13. @Wilhelm: Oh… Understood. Well, it’s not something I want THAAAT badly, ’cause we’ll have Destiny 2 and ToDR sometime soon [I pray :P], it’s just that I’ve fallen in love with Tales of Phantasia Full Voice Edition, you know this game?

    Well, someday, who knows… 😛

  14. hey, why not? Keep up the good work, mate :). I have been following your progress for a while now, and if this delay will only bring better quality in your translation, I can bear to wait 😉

  15. Used to seeing fan translations take years anyways. Thanks for keeping us updated.

  16. once tol completed would japanese action replay codes work on it or is that a no?

  17. Awwww….I was looking forward to this translation being released Q1.

Oh well, good luck with the translation and awesome job so far!

  18. This actually works out really well for me. If this came out during school it would be the end of me.

Either way, I don’t mind waiting when it comes to a quality translation. Thanks so much for doing this. I really appreciate your work. Good luck, and I hope everything goes smoothly.

  19. I can wait but I have one thing to ask: If by some miracle Tales of Innocence is coming to the US, are you going to pull the plug on this translation? This has been bugging me to no end.

  20. Yes, if it’s announced for localization, this project ends immediately.

  21. I agree with “PikohanRevenge” ^^ but I get side tracked by other games anyway XD.

It’s looking to be a high-class translation so take as much time as you think is necessary =3

  22. Take as long as you guys like, if only to ensure the best possible translation ever.

Beside, I don’t mind the extra time, since for me, the patch would come out roughly around winter holidays, give or take.

  23. i got a question
i am wondering is there voice when the characters are talking. If you guys said it already, which is the audio, i was wondering if u are going to translate that? If yes, can u make two kinds of versions like one undub audio and one dub audio?
it will be well appreciated because i kind of like undub audio at times with translations.

  24. throughhim413, good job on the tales of phantasia translation!!! i can’t thank you well enough for it. im eagerly awaiting for your tales of innocence translation coming this summer! more power!

  25. @DarkXessZ: I hate the term “undub”, it doesn’t make sense. Since the characters have no voices of their own, whether Japanese or English, both audio tracks should be referred to as dubs. Now that I’ve said that, it doesn’t really matter since we have no intention of creating an English dub for this.

  26. Thx for the answer, Sorry about the term throughhim413
Thx for the update too 😛

  27. Good work guys, so we get to wait a lil longer, thats cool. In reference to the dub. I m glad that it will be left as is. I personally played Tales of the Abyss with the Japanese dub and the rest of the game in full English and that was great. I am currently playing Tales of Symphonia-gc and I hate that the skits have no voice………

I am looking forward to the end result, keep up the good work guys!

  28. Not til’ Summer? But don’t you have like only one class a day right now? Step it up!

  29. Ah, if only classes were the sole consumer of my time, how grand that would be.

  30. Because we all know what a great job you’re doing with the translation, it is worth waiting a bit more. Although my heart skipped a beat when I first read about the delay…

  31. Well thats good news, its better to be safe with a good product, then rush and somethings get messed

anyways good job! keep up the hard work

  32. That’s fine. You do what you gotta do to make this translation how you want it.

  33. i hope you soon finally stranlate it because i wait so long time to play it in English. Do you intend to stranlate tales of tempest game, it a wonderful game of namco like TOI
