Nothing has happened since September

By • December 16, 2014

What it says in the title.

As is the nature of long-term projects like these, progress ebbs and flows. If anything, I’m amazed that the frantic pace I maintained in the early part of the project continued as long as it did. After completing the skit translations, progress on ToDR completely fell off a cliff. The amount of work that I’ve done since then is what would’ve taken me 2-3 days in the beginning. Life has just been busier than normal lately and I haven’t had as much free time to invest in the project. I’m slowly getting back into it, but I’m not expecting another frantic burst of progress in the near future.

I didn’t mean to let the silence continue for so long, so my apologies for that. If people have requests for what they’d like to see in future updates, comment below. I can’t guarantee anything, but I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for sticking with us!

  1. Thanks for the update. I’m looking forward to the day this project is finished.

As for requests for future updates; a screenshot or two of some translated part of the game. I always find those pretty hype. It would also be something to fill up the somewhat empty image gallery with. Just a thought.

    Good luck with your projects.

  2. I’d love to see a Github repo setup to house the project’s text source. Even if the files aren’t in browser-viewable plaintext format, having publicly available commit logs would provide some welcome transparency, as well as a way for the fans to stay updated on the project without having to wait until enough progress (or lack thereof) has been made to justify a full-blown blog update.

We can all relate to not having enough free time, so thank you for being open and honest about the current state of things. Your work is very much appreciated!

  3. Why not updates on Tales of Phantasia X ? Maybe it could be good for you to switch your focus on a different project 😉

  4. Screenshots of a humor scene or the artes names would be great!

    Keep up the good work.

  5. @henri: I had the same thought yesterday. I translated a little bit of ToPX and it was a nice change of pace. I need to remember that I have three projects to choose from next time I start getting burnt out!

  6. Been following this site for years patiently awaiting any progress on ToD’s translation. Any progress is good progress IMO. I’ve waited this long, what’s another year? Like many in the US, ToD was our first Tales Of… game. It’s a pleasure to see the revamped version being translated after all these years.

Keep up the awesome work, little clips like the skits in the last post are pure gold for teasing. That last clip also shows to the degree of polish you go for in the grammar.

Any job worth doing is worth doing right the first time. Thank you for your attention to detail and accuracy.

    Menu patch

  8. @Crevox: Rest assured that the full patch will include a menu translation.

  9. At least you bother to update to let us know that you are still alive, something almost none of the other fan translation projects I follow do

  10. We all get that you have a life, no need to explain yourself. But I really appreciate how you share with us how the projects are going regularly. Please keep doing so.

  11. Don’t worry…stuff happens! With how my family’s year has gone, I can totally understand life getting in the way. You’re not professional translators doing this for money, so you’ve got more important things to worry about than how fast this gets done.

I can wait for whenever it gets done. It’ll get me time to run the game a bit more and set up for some super file I can play in English!

  12. Keep at it, I’m rooting for ya and take your time.

  13. Thank you for the update. Life doesn’t revolve just in the translation alone, so I, myself understand. Any progress is good IMO.

    Thanks again for your work!
