Current Focus: Tales of Destiny R main story

Time is flying lately. I can’t believe it’s already May. After several months of less-translating-than-I-wanted happening, I’m getting back into the swing of things. That being said, I’m just getting back into it. I’m starting to work my way through act 2 of ToDR at a pace that is neither breakneck or leisurely. I’m hopeful for May. May is looking good.

I had originally planned to talk a bit about a back-end system that Kingcom is working on for the project (or rather, make Kingcom talk about it), but we hit a bit of a snag, so that will have to wait until its ready for prime time.

Ruta has access to our translation tools now, but we don’t quite have her able to patch and test in-game yet. The first step is for her to re-familiarize herself with the material and get used to my style. Hopefully she’ll be able to begin work in earnest before long (even if that just means playing the game at first).

  1. Good to hear, as always thanks for sharing and thanks Ruta for the help.

  2. i am grateful for the update This tales of destiny remake project is so great. I played the original ps1 version but this version is best and includes a much more refined version of the original LMBS. I had a tough time understanding the menu and items etc and also thanks to you one day soon I will be able to enjoy the story as well. As usual let me know if anything is needed or donation etc. Thank you for all your efforts :0

    Kindest regards,
    William

  3. Neither breakneck nor leisurely sounds like a good idea to stick with. You want to get it done but you don’t want to actually burn yourself out. Good luck with May!

  4. Thanks for the update. I look forward to the day when I can play this, Rebirth, and Destiny 2. I only wish I could help!

  5. They say slow and steady wins the race. It’s hard getting much done by one’s self, so with some folks sharing the responsibilities, I know things can work out.

Until then, wishing things the best of luck and hope to hear more progress reports on Tales Of Destiny R.

    PS to Shawn

Apparently, Tales Of Rebirth has already been translated & can be played. At first there was an OLD version with both Japanese & English words. But now on youtube, there’s a new version of perfect translation with the actors speak Japanese just like from seeing & playing Tales Of Vesperia PS3 English Patch.

  6. Thanks for the update, looking forward for this project. Keep up the pace and thanks for Ruta’s help :P.

  7. Great update. Sounds like things are heating up slowly but surely. It’s great to hear that the project is progressing. Looking forward to May, thanks for the update.

  8. Glad to hear that things are moving along! Thank you all so much for your hard work, and good luck! Looking forwards to it.

  9. As always, thank you for your hard work. It’s nice to see you more at ease with this project

  10. @VISION-KING
Are you sure it exists? All I was able to find is someone who hard-subbed their entire playthrough.

  11. Thanks for the updates!

They exist. At least those of two categories. Those of which folks made hard-subs which are yellow words & sentences, or those on Youtube where you click on the subtitle function someone managed to translate what is said.

It might not be where the Japanese letters have been replaced fully, but it’s about the closest thing one can view to follow through what events take place & how to understand them.

  13. @VISION-KING
So you mean watch it on youtube as you play? Nah, I prefer to have the English actually on the game screen so I am not having to look at two different screens. They continue to work on it so hopefully one day.

  14. I really think that you should keep the lady ruta permanently on your team working on one Tales of game project at a time with you, but also that you could keep searching for a THIRD person to help with translation on another project of yours. It’s so that your projects’ progress overall can pick up speed more rapidly!
I’ve just learnt that there’s been a PS Vita game called “Tales of Innocence R” that is said to be a big improvement over the much maligned “… Hearts” game on the PS Vita (Bad localization as everybody knows. Although there is also a Japanese only DS version but it’s different.) and is better than the original “… Innocence” variant on the DS (Which was fan-translated by yours truly!).

So, yeah, there are now more “Tales of…” games than ever to try to fan-translate to completion. Which means more work and time needed. So therefore having more people on-board your team will help totally.

  15. Keep up the great work. It’s good to see one of the 3 big PS2 untranslated Tales games being worked on so hard. Maybe someday someone will do Destiny 2 and Rebirth.

  16. @nks
A fan translation of Tales of Rebirth is currently being worked on. But unfortunately no one is working on Destiny 2 yet.

  17. i said it before, and i’ll say it again. i’ll buy you a beer if you complete this here translation, because i’ve always wanted to play it in english.

thanks for doubling down your focus like you have recently, man. it makes me happy to know it’s going well.

  18. Thanks for the update! It’s great to hear that you’ve found a good pace for your work!

  19. Thank you for the update!

  20. I will Paypal you $500 if you finish translating Tales of Destiny. This is not a joke.

  21. Thank you for giving us the option to try this gem. Really appreciate the hard work.

  22. I really like it that you always post at the start of the month, even if nothing much happens! Reeeally looking forward to this, it’s hard to share my passion for ToD with others here because it was never released in Australia. I was lucky enough to get some american version games in Bali when I went there. Looking forward to revisiting this game, I heard this ps2 version is much better.

I’ll be here in a few days for your next post :P.
