Tales of Phantasia X and Narikiri Dungeon X (PSP)

Recent Updates

Current Focus: Tales of Destiny R

Sorry for lateness. I made less progress than I’d hoped in August, so it’s time for a talk.

tl;dr: I’m going to focus on Tales of Destiny in earnest. Phantasia is mostly on hold until ToDR is done. NDX is totally on hold until Phantasia is done. Wish us luck!

More below.

Current Focus: Demeter’s Mansion Events (ToP)

It was a good month for ToP. I had hoped to be further along by this point in the year, but the project marches onward nonetheless!

Current Focus: Venezzia Events

This month saw Euclid and Lone Valley completed in ToP. Finally making some progress again.

April was not a good month for our translation projects. It was a very busy month for me personally and I couldn’t seem to find the motivation to work on any of the projects. What few attempts I made were painful and I didn’t feel like I was going to produce anything worthwhile. This is now two months in a row where I’ve accomplished significantly less than I’d like to, but unfortunately all I can do for now is hope that May goes better.

Current Focus: Euclid Events, Menu Text Edits, Menu Fixes

In this month’s episode, we keep on keeping on.

  1. Any news from this project? I was going to replay the psx version when I found this (Love) Now I can wait. Thank you so much!

  2. Sorry, I have a big cuestion. I know this game is both tales of phantasia and his sequel, but can you play first the remake of tales of phantasia? Or you need to play first the sequel? Can you choose? Thank you!!

  3. I remember playing the original Tales of Phantasia by Dejap on the SNES long ago and loved the game itself, their translation notwithstanding as I was young at the time and didn’t care much, but I know the playstation version and the GBA version exist translated. Seeing you work on this version of the game does bring me a ton of happiness as the GBA version’s translation is awful. I mainly play handheld games on my YT channel and was recently was reminded of Phantasia. I was curious if the psp versions ever got patched. Seeing how the psx version was already done and this version is being retranslated, just how different/updated is the text? From an outside’s pov, shouldn’t the story be 100% done? I’m guessing the brunt of the work is coding the text into the game but I don’t want to assume as I did read that new features are being added for accessibility.

I guess, my biggest questions are how things are coming along with progress and where most of the difficulty of creating the patch lies. Then, there’s wondering if ToPX and NDX will be seperate releases are done as a whole project. I’m not wanting to bombard with questions or anything. I’m mainly just curious if I should wait it out if the progress is nearing completion or if I should just play either the PSX or GBA versions of the game. The GBA is technically an update of the PSX version so that’s why I’m even remotely considering it. Which one would you recommend if progress isn’t far enough along yet?

  4. Was wondering how much percentage is complete with ToPX. Still waiting for about 4 years now. Thank You

  5. @Azure_Brain: This project is currently on hold while we focus on Tales of Destiny. ToPX and NDX will be released as separate patches, but I am not reusing my old translation, so everything is being done from scratch. If you have the urge to play the game sooner rather than later, I would recommend playing the PSX version. In its visuals, audio, and gameplay, the GBA version lags significantly behind the PSX version. There are two existing PSX translations, the one found here at Absolute Zero and the one from Phantasian Productions. I think both have their pros and cons, so it’s up to you which you choose to play. I hope to make the eventual ToPX release the definitive ToP experience, but we’re still a long way from being able to release it.

  6. ^ Thank you very much for the reply!
I was just debating whether I should try this one out or the other so I guess that I will be trying the PS1 version before.
We hope the best and fight on! ^-^

  7. I am looking forward to the translation of “Tales of Phantasia X” from the PSP.
This seems to be the best version of the game.

  8. Hi, I’m a Korean. I speak English better, so this is a great chance to meet the game once again. I played Japanese PSX version like 8 years ago. It blew me away, even though I cannot understand about 99% of it. And then last week, I blew out the dust in my drawer and took it out again. I wanted to understand the dialogues so I searched for the English version, and Tha-da… Here it was. I’m now playing the past, and it’s whole different game now I can understand what they are saying. Even NPCs are great!!!! Anyway, even if I play the game and face the final stage, and the translation for ToP X comes out, I’ll gradly and most happily, to play it once more. Thanks for your great job and here’s a cheer from the far east country! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I am looking forward to the translation of โ€œTales of Phantasia Xโ€ from the PSP.
Should you need any help I’m a programmer and I would gladly lend you a hand!
    Don’t hesitate on contacting me.

  10. Also just here to say im looking forward to phantasia X and i appreciate all your hard work! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Can you release a patch that translates only the menus of the 2 games?
I have passed NDX once and Phantasia X twice and I lost one of the saves of ToP because I chose to save game instead of loading game and with this I overwrote 60h of gameplay -,-.

I know that you are focusing on Destiny 2 and that you wanted to get the full NDX patch, but to translate the menu (only options, not descriptions or anything of the style) would make it easier to enjoy the gameplay of this game for those of us who already know the story .
