Well, starting tomorrow morning, I will be back in classes in the good ol’ US of A. I don’t expect that it will keep me too much busier, actually I tend to do well with some structure in my life, so I think that translation should proceed at about the same rate it has been. I just wanted to make a quick post, remind everyone that I’m still alive and fill you in on the most recent Tales of Innocence developments.
Kingcom has been working on formating some more of the menu windows, getting all of them spaced out properly and looking their Sunday best. You can see the results for the Monster Encyclopedia above. I realize that these pictures might not be all that exciting to most people, but they’re all I had handy for the time being, so I hope you’ll forgive me. Remember, every little bit contributes to the whole. Those of you following the blog are in it for the long haul, you get to see everything as it become available, but there are lulls.
My main reason for making this post is simple – I just finished translating one of the largest files in Tales of Innocence. Item Names and Descriptions are now translated! Maybe that doesn’t mean much to anyone else, but for me, having items out of the way is always a huge milestone. I attempted to calculate a menu completion percentage to celebrate the occasion, and here’s what I came up with. The menu is somewhere around 80% complete. (Maybe if it’s bold, people won’t ask me about the progress for a little while.) So now I’m sure some of you are asking yourselves, “What’s left?” It’s a lot of small stuff. Guild stuff, shop stuff, some misc. enemy names, various bits of dialogue that are stored in the menu – remember, it’s the small stuff that makes the game. That 80% DOES NOT include the Summary data. I plan on translating the Summary stuff AFTER finishing the main story and skit translation, so it might be one of the last things I do. In fact, a fair amount of the translation remaining in the menu will be best completed down the line, so it probably won’t be long before I really get started on the dialogue (and eventually the skit) translating.
If you’re wondering how this project is moving speed-wise, I would say that it is going “fairly fast”. I certainly don’t think we’re moving at blazing speed, but Kingcom and I are both very comfortable with our current pace. There’s really no need for us to rush it though, this is about as fast as we want to be moving right now. Everything is progressing exactly as we had hoped. Well, that’s about all I’ve got for now. I’ll be back to school, but nothing much should change around here. ^_^
