At this time, we believe that removing the wireless from the game is the best course of action.
I realize this may disappoint some of you, but the wireless is simply too broken to be enjoyable. Do understand that this decision is not yet 100% final. I am waiting for a second flashcart to arrive so that I can test the wireless more extensively. If there is anything that we can do to fix it, we will. However, for the time being, we feel that it is best to concentrate our efforts on the main game. While we understand that some of you wanted to make use of the wireless features, we cannot delay the release of the patch for a feature that has only niche interest. We feel that it is in everyone’s best interest to have the patch as soon as possible. If and when it becomes possible to fix the wireless, we will release an updated patch.
When I have completed my testing between two flashcarts, I can talk more about when the game breaks and why we think it breaks when using wireless mode. I apologize that I cannot provide more information at this time, but there are simply too many unknowns. We have ensured that the Versus style will be available in the single player mode, so don’t worry about that. In spite of what you might believe, removing the wireless will take less time and effort than either of the other two options. It is unfortunate that it had to come to this, but circumstances being what they are, we feel this decision is in the best interests of both the players and the team. Thank you for your understanding.
Trust me, the wireless stuff on this isn’t what everyone lining up for. We’re just anxious for the game release itself, and if it means a month sooner release date by not including the wireless part that probably means nothing to gameplay, I say just hack it and forget about it. Maybe you could go back to it and, if you figure out a way, release it in a different patch for the niche crowd later on, if anyone still wants it.
@draiker
Sorry I misunderstand your prior statement
there’s no different between single play or multiplayer, basically they’re the same it just the added up the human player ( 2P, 3P,… ), so you can’t separate the menu between single play or multiplayer
Ok so we won’t get wireless on the trans version… But can’t we jus switch the .sav file back to the jp version then wireless without problems after beating the game (or how ever the lik)… Right? Or maybe rip the game’s wireless then make a small game with that and transfer the .sav data to the mini wireless game… Though sounds too complicated… But worth a try right? Some one write back on my little idea..maybe mister throughhim413?
I don’t quite understand what you’re talking about the wireless game or mini game, but yes you can switch the .sav ( from your patched rom ) back to you clean japanese rom to play wireless because originally they are the same rom
Whatever you guys need to do to make this easier and faster, then by all means do it. Wireless isn’t a giant feature anyways. Full respect to you translators!
i hope u guys finish this by the end of the summer cause there’s a big rpg coming our way is dragon quest 9 ^^
@amanda
And you are implying what exactly? Isn’t it better that the more the good games out there that keeps on comin’, the better the benefits for us gamers/fans?
is removing the wireless gonna make this patch come out sooner ?? cuz if it is do it now i really wanna play this game in english
I don’t see why the team would want to speed up a 2 year project to compete against any game, even because they won’t charge for the patch or benefit in any way from a earlier release. And nothing prevents you from playing 2 RPGs alternately.
As for breez, read this and the previous text thoughhim posted before making your next demand.
^ This.
Anyway, Thoughhim I have a question. I read in some forums you are going to add some “options” in the game. I asked in these sites what these were but the topics are kinda dead. I thought the only thing added to the game would be the option to choose between romanized and localized skill names, is there anything besides that?
@amanda
I also am excited about DQIX but I don’t see your point so i wiil agree with silens.
@breez
the whole point of this post is to tell they took out wireles mode and why they did so I think theres no need for yer “do it now” demand. I don’t think this will make the patch get a release any sooner but prevent it from being release any later for trying to find a solution for the multiplay issue.
@Kokia: One option, as you mentioned, allows you to select Localized, Translated, or Romanized. The other option is related to the battle subtitles and lets you select On, Important, or Off. Important will enable the subtitles that we feel players would care about most to avoid cluttering up the screen.
Ah you are such dolls, this patch gets more exciting by the day! Thank you for the reply and the team for the neat addons.
What is the diference between the translated and localized ones?
surprise surprise
still nothing huh?
I guess even at this point I’d be playing this faster if I just started to study japanology (however thats spelled in english), right?
^ definitely not, my good man. You could probably finish the game after the patch is out and not master the japanese language…
@Jack’O’
An impatient guy who doesn’t care about work like you would never even even get started anyway.
hmm assclowns aside I wouldnt mind learning japanese but language barriers get owned by my ADD in less than 5 min usually = /
Bajol// things like Apple Gummi (translated) vs Apple Gel (localized).
Jack’O'// why didn’t you? Why don’t you give it a shot now and see if that’s actually the case? Baseless conjectures mean nothing and often is referred as trolling.
You planning on making an update soon?
Nope. Beta testing is going well. Nothing else to say, really.
Fair enough. The word well calms me a little bit and “nothing else to say” makes me assume there were no more major bugs.
GOD, am I anxious! XD
to be honest, I only learned about this a few months after starting to study psychology and sociology and switching universities (cause mine doesnt have japanology actually) isn’t quite as easy as one would think it is
Congratulations, you can make claims about yourself on the internet. But you’re still an impatient guy who doesn’t care about work, educated or not.
@jungyin stop calling everyone impatient and saying they don’t care >.>
still wondering if there is any minimages or bonus dungeons. (or accessable on the second playthrough)
also the new blue dragon game will be comming out in about a week, this one looks pertty awesome compared to the others, ima totally gonna try it XP
I’ve been following the project silently since it started, and all I want to say is this: You guys kick ass. Carry on.
I definitely agree with the decision you guys made, removing wireless is clearly the best option for everybody at this point. I imagine the number of people with friends who also like Tales of, have a DS, have a flashcart and will be able to play wirelessly together more than just a couple times before going back to the single player is going to be a very, very small amount of people anyway, and if it’s so broken then keeping it in just wouldn’t be worth it.
I’m amazed at how good you guys are at what you do respectively and how hard you work to. Thanks for the update!
So, I just bought sonic heroes, resident evil 4 and odins sphere and god help me this isnt finished when im through with those games <.<
I think its to early to ask this, but after the translation is complete you guys will began working on another “Tales of” game? I will ask this becouse Namco is really annoying me not releasing nothing in english. And I supose Keroro, ToG and ToP@PS3 will never be released here too. =(
As you can see in their project list, Tales of Destiny – Director’s Cut is next on their list ( It’s a junction project with Phantasian Productions, so we can expect a top notch job ).
can’t you just make two version one with wireless disabled and one with it enabled
enough with the omg no wireless no play accept the game how is finished u know hes wasting his time to do this for u all free
Off-project question here.
Hey toughhim, I see Kingcom is working with you in ToI. I’m interested in the Xenosaga I+II translation, he is also part of it, no? Do you know if (s)he or the team have a website like this one telling the status of that project?
This is the project page for Xenosaga over at the Romhacking Aerie. http://kaioshin.romhacking.net/?cat=11
Thanks.
@amanda
you know, no matter how much my kind bitches about things taking too long for no good reason, all we ever say is that he’s wasting our time, not his own…
@norbit
then don’t waste your time waiting for this patch, don’t download this patch, and go play other game if you can’t appreciate what the AZ’s team doing for US and for FREE
Have you guys run into major problems during beta testing cause i think this is taking a pretty long time even if you tried to do everything in the game.its been about a month and a half since you started. Sorry if this has already been answered
Yes, it has been answered several times. Search for it.
Can namco-Bandai find out about this project and shut it down? Because if they can, it will be a pretty big upset if the patch does not get released and just before it does, namco steps in and forces a project termination, like square-enix did to that chrono trigger 3D fan remake.
they don’t care about us anyway
At least Beta Testing is doing well. I just began Pokemon Soul Silver a few days ago after finishing Zelda Spirit Tracks. This will keep me busy for months until the patch is released.
i dont think that will happen because they are translating the game and not making a copy of it.
well no matter how you look at it, they are disassembling the game data and all that stuff,, if they dont want that, they would have to stop and noone would ever play it just cause they took too long
seriously people stop being so impatient man seriously its at beta testing you’ve waited two years you can wait a few more months.
much love for your work throughim and kingcom jolly good show chums.
@dyne – from what I’ve seen N-B would probably only shut this down IF they were doing their own localisation. This is not really competing against them (so they’re not losing sales) since anyone waiting for this patch is doing so because they don’t speak Japanese. Anyone who can will probably import it, rather than wait. Plus this kind of project is almost like free advertising for them, and for the tales series in general.
its true it is like advertising. but at the same time IMO its shameful that Namco wouldn’t release this here as well as most of their series. they are great game with a company to stupid to market them right.
also i guess since i just got the SC2 beta il have something to do
I don’t really know if this is legal… is the team really infringing copyright?
You really care about that? The only way to fully enjoy this game 100% legally is buying it and learning japanese.
The modification of the code of the game is illegal and patches always change the code and alter the game files. It’s only legal to play a backup of any game if you make it yourself using a legit copy you own, but even this is not unanimity among all countries. Besides you can only play patched roms in flashcarts and emulators and doing so is also illegal. So yeah, Absolute Zero is infringing copyright.
But most translation patches are made for games with nearly zero or no chance of being released in “x” language. So although game companies have the right to cancel these projects its unlikely to happen because they don’t have much chance of profting in places with gamers that don’t understand the language of their product. This diminishes the copyright infrigiment nuisance and leads them to ignore it. The fact that most, if not all, fantranslators don’t mean to profit with their work and don’t give links to roms or isos also helps.
IMO this patch is purely made by ToI fans for ToI fans. I don’t think even Scamco would want to crush this.
Well thanks for the info I never realy thought like that. I dont think the team is using using pyracy but if namco dont care enough about us to release it in english why shoul I care about their copyright getting violated eh? i just hope youre right about namco not trying to cancel it.
