  1. That’s to be expected since this patch is only for the PSX version.

  2. Love your work guys, keep it up!

I’ve been playing this patch on the psp (currently running on CFW 5.00 M33-2 and I’ve made it to the last dungeon without having to switch to the unpatched version. That took a little luck in the midgard battle (yup it got stuck on me about 7 times before I made it to that save point on my 8th attempt) and skipping the scene after that boss battle (jeez people just press start and watch the scene on youtube)

anyways I really enjoyed this and I thank you for it.

I’m also looking forward to an official announcement for a Tales of rebirth translation (psp please :D)

  4. AWESOME WORK, if there would be more people like you….life for rpg fans would be heaven…

if i think about rpg oldschool games who never reached us q,q
alone the sega saturn has so much to offer (wachenröder, farland saga, and a dozen more)
but no one ever translated saturn games.

but i dont waver…i hope for the future, a better future with good old games.
I dreamed about a psx phantasia translation for 5 years….you did it!!

i dont know if you can imagine how me and other peoples feel about your work, but if tears of joy could talk, they would compose an opera for you : )

i’m looking forward to your next work
(and still hopes that a new generation will pick up some saturn goodies and record of lodoss war sega-cd…..
why i tell you this? because you see i know what it means to hope and wait ^.~)

    greets from germany

  5. Playing it on an original PSX system, the opening movie song, skit voices, diolouge voices, and half of the battle voices (like the やーた!at the end of battles) do not play. Anyone else have the same issue? Did I do something wrong in patching it?

    Thanks in advance
    -Kain

  6. I just tested copying the game straight without patching it and I am having the same problem. I wonder if its the copying to ISO that is having issues, or the burning to CD from ISO..

  7. Fixed it!

For anyone else having the same problem, I figured out it was the ripping to ISO step where it was going wrong. I used a different program to rip the disc and it now it works perfectly.

  8. I’m playing this on my psp and it freezes just after the magitch cannon activation ;___; any ways to solve this? ;w;

  9. Same here. It freezes on most anime scenes for me. If it helps, I have 5.00 M33, and it didn’t seem to freeze when I played in 3.90 M33.

  10. For people complaining about issues playing on PSP:
Patch the PSX iso yourself, do no get an already-patched image!

You probably downloaded the PSP version available on the pirate bay trackers.
Well I did too, and I can confirm there is a problem with this eboot.
The videos during the Midgard battle will make the game crash.
Although you can skip the first one by hitting “start”, you cannot avoid the one when they fire the Magitech weapon.
    So you’re stuck.

    The solution:
Get the original Japanese PSX iso.
    Apply the translation patch.
Convert your new PSX iso into a PSP eboot. (with a soft like PSX2PSP for example)

This worked great for me, no problem anymore with the videos.

However some issues on the PSP still remain:
when Arche casts a spell, the game might randomly freeze. (confirmed with firmwares 4.10M33 and 5.00M33-4 on my PSP slim)
I do not understand the cause, it is not linked to a particular spell, and occurs only with Arche.
This problem happened the first time near the Olive village.
But it is very random : it can happen 2 or 3 times in 15 minutes, but you might also be able to play during several hours without any crash.
Maybe it’s a bug with pops, to be sure one should try to play the PSX Japanese version on PSP.

To conclude: thank you very much to Gemini and throughhim413!
Awesome work guys, I wanted to play a translated PSX version for so long… So katajikenai to you. ;)

  11. how do u apply the patch?

  12. Instructions are included in the readme. It’s very simple.

  13. It would be great if you can make a patch for the PSP’s version of this game… Please do consider to make one, I have this game but I really need a patch for it… Waaaaaaaa… T_T

  14. Then why don’t you learn japanese? In maybe 3 or 4 years you could be really good at it and you would be able to understand the unpatched version. That’s a good option, isn’t it?

  15. @ Mivey:
Indeed, but I just don’t have the time to take up jap language classes… Well, at least I can understand a bit thanks to anime… But it’s still pretty tough to me coz I wanna understand the entire dialogue >_<

  16. great work team absolute zero
just out of curiosity, since the whole the psx game has been translated, is it possible to change the programming so that it can translate the psp one (I like the sprites better in psp one)?

  17. It has been stated that the re encoding for psp would be a grand task on its own. I would just recommend use the text translation to translate for you. Printing it out might make it a bit easier.

  18. hey, this may be asked miilion times before. but how come I don’t have the psp sprites(after I patched it) like u showed in the gallery? it old small psx sprites again….O_o

    thnx and good luck btw…

  19. any chance you would do a patch for the psp version of phantasia???

    thanks

  20. From a technical standpoint, it’s really not something that we’re considering at this point.

  21. This is great, playing your phantasia as we speak!

Can’t wait for Director’s cut of ToD.

Question, how come in your screenshots the images seem so much better than when I’m playing in on my psx… maybe its just me heh.

    Thanks for the awesome work.

  22. You know there is someone who already found a way to hack the psp games and be able to form a patch. You probably already know of them but if they were to help why not use the psp games and translate em cuz at least for phantasia I would still be able to place it in my psp but i would like Destiny 2 and Rebirth to come out for the psp fan translated.

    http://blog.tales-tra.com/

Here they were able to change the language for both PSX and PSP version of Eternia into spanish. Of course it would be kinda hard to access this site since its in spanish :p

But then there is this other website which is translating The PSP version of the Melancholy of Haruhi Susumiya.

    http://zarradeth.wordpress.com/

Would it be possible to use their program to translate such games for the PSP? I would love to see such things happen and I would work for some also as an aspiring programmer ;)

  23. BTW everyone here should sign this petition here to bring the tales of games to america. We are trying to get 100,000 people so that Nandai will listen to us. All we need is you to help us. Go here http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/206235604
and sign with all your might and let everyone else know that they should sign this too!!!

  24. can anyone tell me where can i download this patch and this game (tales of phantasia) thank you….

  25. The patch is on this page:
    http://www.absolutezerotranslations.com/phantasia/download/

You’re on your own for the game though.

  26. thAnks…

  27. Thank you very much Absolute Zero Team for translating Phantasia, you guys are awesome with your effort and spare time put forth into this, I’m greatly appreciated. I look forward to future projects upon completion, keep up the great work guys!

  28. Thanks so much for translating Phantasia. I really admire what you do.

  29. First off, thanks a ton for the translation! :)

    I have two questions though:
    1) Would memory card files from the original JP game (or the tales-cless patch) work with this interchangeably?
    2) Has anyone had any luck getting the patcher to work in vista or seven? I’m running windows 7 right now and it always crashes (after the expanding part but right when the patching starts). I’m not patching an already patched image, it’s the original image of the game (MD5 confirmed as well). I tried running in compatibility mode but it still crashes. Any help? Can the patch be used with another tool?

    Thanks!

  30. Well, I managed to get it to work… via Wine (from my MacOSX partition) of all things :)

  31. I’m glad you managed to get it to work. If I ever get around to upgrading to W7, I’ll look into it. So thank you for bringing it to our attention either way. Sorry that I didn’t respond earlier, I just didn’t have any kind of solution.

  32. @alaterale
I managed to get it work on 7. Though mine is just an evaluation copy so I don’t know if that’s the reason why it worked.

  33. Thank you guys so very much!

I had never played this game on the PSX, used to play it on the Snes, but never finish it :( Know I discover this wonderful version (psx) and in english!!! Thanks guys!

  34. I’ve run into another freezing glitch. I previously ran into the Midgard one and that was solved by patching my own iso. But now when Mint tries to heal the Yggdrasil tree with the Unicorn Horn, it freezes right after the “explosion” happens. I’m assuming there’s another FMV there that I can’t manage to skip.

It’s an odd kind of freeze too, unlike the Midgard glitch. There’s still sound playing, sounds like wind blowing or whatnot, but nothing ever appears on the screen.

Please tell me there’s a way to fix this…

  35. The bin/cue works on the emulator, but my PS won’t read the CD after I burn it… (my PS is chipped, I ripped the game from my burned copy, which works) Does anyone know how I can get it to work on my PS?

  36. Patch doesn’t work with Windows 7, as far as I can tell. I can see another commenter managed to work with Wine, but I have no idea how to do that or even if it’s possible with my notamac laptop.

Is there any known fix or am I going to have to borrow someone else’s computer?

  37. I managed to get it to work. Instead of just running the patcher like you normally would, right click it and select “Run as administrator.” When I did, I didn’t get that strange error message. Hopefully that will work for you.

I added a note to the download page. Thanks to everyone who brought it to our attention.

  38. I ran into a game breaking bug with the psp eboot, after Cless is summoned by Valkyrie there is a cut scene with the people in midgard using a secret special weapon in the basement to counter the arial invasion and it just turns into a black screen. Is it my idea or is the psp eboot unable to watch cut scenes?

  39. Any further questions or comments on the Tales of Phantasia patch can be directed to the relevant forum:

  40. Is there any english translation for the full voice psp edition?

  41. No, but we’re working on ToPX which is just the FVE with more content.

  42. Glad to hear that! Hope to hear from you guys soon, great work! :)

  43. Hello guys!

Correct me if I’m wrong but do you guys translating both ToP Nariki Dungeon X AND the Tales of Phantasia X who comes with NDX for PSP?

    Any release date?

    Thanks! =)

  44. We’re working on both, yes. They’re still a ways off. Destiny is the main focus right now.

  45. Sweet!
